Hi, I'm Jeff Sangpiel, the chief technology officer here at Qualstar. LTO7 tapes are nearing the end of life with last time unit purchases available from Qustar through December as our supplies last. Shipment of these last time purchases will continue until inventory is depleted. LTO7 tapes, however, will continue to be available for a number of years, and Qualstar still offers support for LTO7 drives. A reminder that LTO7 decks are key to uplifting existing LTO5, 6, and 7 archives to repack them into later generations of tape. LTO9 or 10 drives will not read LTO 7, six, or five generation of tapes. Some things to consider as the deadline approaches. LTO 10 has full height drives, and each cartridge currently supports up to 30 terabytes of data. The data from 20 LTO5 tapes, 12 LTO6 tapes, or five LTO7 tapes will fit onto a single LTO10 tape. A tape migration strategy may be in order at this time. If you have lastminute orders for LTO7 or questions about the end of sales for LTO7, please reach out to us at sales@quallstar.com. Thank you.
